Warts

Warts in Southeast Portland, OR

Although they’re associated with them, warts don’t develop after touching a frog. Warts can be embarrassing to deal with, and you may find yourself unwilling to take off your shoes in public if you have one. Warts can happen to anyone and typically occur on the bottom of your foot. It’s important to be able to identify when you’re dealing with a wart and understand what a wart is and how it can be treated so that you can start feeling comfortable in your skin again.

Types of Warts

There are different types of warts that can develop all over your body, but when it comes to feet, plantar warts are what you’ll be dealing with. Plantar warts can either be solitary, which is just one wart, or mosaic, which is a cluster of small warts growing closely in a specific area. Mosaic warts are more difficult to treat, but not impossible.

Plantar warts are caused by coming into direct contact with the human papilloma virus, also known as HPV. HPV also causes warts on other areas of your body.

There isn’t a known way to prevent warts from occurring, but you can find out how to lower your risk of coming in contact with HPV and stop warts from spreading by getting the HPV vaccine.

Treating Warts

Plantar warts may eventually clear up without any treatment, but it may take a long time and most people would like faster results. Your podiatrist may use topical or oral treatments, laser therapy, cryotherapy, acid treatments, or surgery. The treatment chosen will depend on the location and severity of your wart.
